Father Mike ButlerFather Mike Butler, age 55, is a native of Port Washington, Long Island, New York. He enlisted in the Army signal Corps in the mid-sixties and trained in media communications. His specialized training was in motion picture and still photography. He traveled extensively throughout Europe on media assignments. Following his service experience, he continued his professional photography skills in New York City and Austin, Texas. In the mid-seventies, he joined Our Lady of Guadalupe Benedectine Monastery, Pecos, New Mexico. Within one year of his entry, he was on the road giving retreats, seminars, and parish renewal missions around the country. He entered St. John's Graduate Seminary, Camarillo, California, in 1979 and received his Master of Divinity Degree in December 1983. Following his seminary days, he studied and traveled for six months in the Holy Land Following completion of his studies in the Middle East, he journeyed to Rome for ordination to the priesthood by Pope John Paul II. The ordination was held at St. Peter's Basilica in May 1984. After ordination, Father Mike continued his work at the monastery doing spiritual direction, giving parish missions and facilitating a school for Spiritual Directors.
Since his arrival in the Diocese of Colorado Springs, he has served in many parishes throughout the diocese as parochial vicar, associate pastor, co-pastor, and pastor. Currently Father Mike is serving the dioceses as a supply priest offering his sacramental services to parishes in the diocese. Father Mikes loves nature and hikes whenever he can. He is becoming more and more a computer nerd as he enjoys staying current with computer technology. His favorite sport is scuba diving, as he believes the great undersea is the doorway to heaven. He also loves motorcycling. He spends much of his time with God in prayer while riding. His motorcycle vanity plate reads "IMNHVN." |
